Although they’re only a few months from release, there still isn’t a ton known aboutPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl. One new detail might be coming soon, however, as according to Nintendo France, the games won’t be featuring anynew Pokemon.
First reported by Nintendo Smash, Nintendo France clarified in a comment thatPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlwill be featuring Pokemon up to the fourth generation. While the company doesn’t specifically say that it won’t have any Pokemon from Gen 5 onwards, the specificity of saying that Pokemon “up to Gen 4” seems to imply that only the first four generations will be included.

It’s important to note that, while this information seems to make some logical sense, it can’t be confirmed entirely just yet. For starters, Nintendo Smash doesn’t cite a source for its information except for an image of a comment by Nintendo France. What’s more, the Nintendo Smash article claims that the comment was made by the Nintendo France Facebook page, but the image clearly shows that it was taken from a screenshot inside the Instagram app. This inconsistency could be because of the fact that Facebook owns Instagram and that the two are sometimes synonymous, but there doesn’t seem to be a comment matching Nintendo Smash’s photo on the Nintendo France Instagram page, so it seems like it was potentially deleted.
As there haven’t been any major announcements about the game followingthe August Pokemon Presents, it’s likely that the Pokemon Company is waiting to break the news to fans. The company faced harsh backlash when it was announced thatPokemon SwordandShieldwould be cutting Pokemon in a similar way, so, if it’s true forBrilliant DiamondandShining Pearl, the company might be waiting for the right time to break the news.
Additionally, all of the otherPokemonremakeshave featured Pokemon from other generations, soBrilliant DiamondandShining Pearlwould be the first to break the trend. As mentioned above, this isn’t confirmed for certain, but depending on how faithful of a remake the games will be, it could make sense that they would only include the roster from the original Nintendo DS games.
Hopefully, more information is provided about the game soon that can either confirm or deny this. As it stands right now, the Pokemon Company might have anotherSwordandShieldcontroversyon its hands and it’s trying to figure out how to best deliver the news to fans.
Pokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlwill release on November 19 for the Nintendo Switch.
