Summary
APokemonfan artist has created three different variants of Meowscarada. Meowscarada is the final evolution ofPokemon Scarlet and VioletGrass-type starter Sprigatito.Pokemonstarters and their evolutions are common subjects for fan art as they are generally some of the most popular creatures in the entire series. This makes sense as many trainers will spend the most time with their initial pocket monster.
An early survey revealed thatSprigatito was initially the most popular starter choice, and the amount of fan art that has been made for the character certainly seems to confirm its status in the community. It’s not just its initial form either, as the fully-evolved Meowscarada also seems to be a favorite amongPokemonfans.

An artist is showcasing their creation of three fan-created forms of the Gen 9 Grass-type Pokemon Meowscarada. Each variant features a mask that is inspired by a different yokai commonly found in Japanese mythology. This is not the first time the artist has created separate versions of the same Pokemon either as they alsodesigned Delphox as various pop culture witches.
In addition to a unique design, each form receives its own secondary type as well as ability. The White Mask Form features the ability Prankster and secondary Ghost type, the Red Mask Form has the secondary Fairy-type with the Levitate ability, and the Blue Mask Form is a Grass and Fighting-type Pokemon with Intimidate. The masks are a somewhat timely inclusion as they are heavily featured in the recent expansion forPokemon Scarlet and Violet. The aptly namedTeal Mask DLC is also inspired by Japanese folklore.
It is amazing that all three forms feel distinct from one another despite being variants of the same Pokemon. Even their typing and abilities feel very cohesive from the top down. Each Mask Form feels as though it could rank highly among some of The Pokemon Company’s best designs. At the very least, perhaps these various final evolutions could give Sprigatito a leg up in thebest Grass-type starter Pokemondebate.
Different forms are something that the franchise has experimented with a bit here and there between regional variants, various legendary beasts, and Pokemon like Rotom. Outside of Ash Greninja and some Hisuian forms, however, this isn’t something fans have seen a lot of with evolutions of starter Pokemon. With new gimmicks being introduced in just about every generation of thePokemonseries, form evolutions seem like an interesting potential step for the inevitable tenth generation. At the very least, they’re cool inspirations for some amazing fan art.
